Hi all, quick question on this series of lenses - are they still actively used or primarily of historic interest? What is the basic equipment required to assess their functional quality / degradation? Are they hard to find, and what price range to expect? Many thanks.
Can you provide a link to the lens series you are specifically asking about? I can find Zeiss “Ultrafluar” lenses but not “Ultrafluor”.
Is there a specific application you have in mind for the lens? UV transmittance?
Hi. Oops, typo. Yes, Ultrafluar is the correct spelling, thanks.
Information on these lenses seems to be a bit hard to come by.
I have some of them in a collection I took over (specifically one designated 100/1.25 glyc), and I’d just like to establish whether they are still actively used for UV microscopy or just for collectors / enthusiasts at this point - that will help me decide what to do with them.
Is the complete label “Ultrafluar, 100/1.25 Glyc, 160/0,35 Qu”? If yes then IMO it is a collectors item. The “160/0.35” means that it is not an infinity objective, which has been the standard for many years now. An objective like this is not compatible with most modern microscopes, or at least the higher end ones.
Wikipedia - Objectives, specifically the section “Mechanical tube length”.
Great info, all makes sense. Yes, that is precisely the type.
As you can probably tell I’m not an expert on microscopy specifically. Just comfortable with general optics and catching up to deal with some equipment. Thanks again.
