NIS Elements macro to replicate ND Sequence Acquisition

I would like to run a complicated XYZ/Lambda/PFS acquisition on a spinning-disk system with NIS Elements, recently upgraded to version 6. In Elements 5 and below, there was a great feature, “ND Sequence,” whereby you could run a series of ND Acquisitions, interspersed with optical configuration changes, pauses, etc. But this feature has apparently been removed from Elements 6, probably because they want to push JOBS/GA3 for this type of application.

We can’t downgrade this software, and we would rather not spend the $$$ for JOBS/GA3 on this particular system, if we can avoid it. I’m thinking we could do this with the Elements macro language, but don’t have much experience.

Would anyone have example macros to share, for running multipoint XYZ/Lambda acquisitions?

Thanks!

Theresa

Dear Theresa,

if you have the Dr. Seishu Reporting tool you can reactivate the ND sequence acquisition. It is ‘hidden’ in one of the menu’s, can’t remember where exactly.

The reason for phasing out the ND sequence acquisition is that the NIS software is slowly switching from ‘Optical Configuration’ to ‘Experiment Setup’ acquisition settings management.

This allows for better integration with JOBS and so much better user experience. I favor JOBS over the ND sequence acquisition, except for doing optogenetics (image 2 colors + FRAP).

Best,

Teo

Dear Teo,

That would be amazing if I could do that! I haven’t heard of this reporting tool (guess I still have a lot to learn after 10+ years working with NIS Elements), and I don’t see it on the software download site. Do you know how I could get it?

(I think JOBS is powerful and useful for many things, but we have a legacy experimental design that we want to revive with minimal time investment.)

Thanks,

Theresa
