Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellow in Advanced Microscopy Imaging Center

The Nikon Imaging Center (NIC) at UC San Diego is seeking a candidate for a 2-3 year (renewable annually) post-doctoral training fellowship in advanced light microscopy techniques, quantitative image analysis and core facility management.
The Fellow will learn advanced quantitative microscopy techniques including wide-field, confocal, TIRF, FRET, FRAP, photoactivation, super-resolution microscopy, and key skills needed to manage a core facility. The Fellow will train users to apply the appropriate microscopy techniques, using a wide range of biological specimens and experimental approaches. The candidate will provide innovative contributions to the design and construction of experiments related to projects in the NIC at UC San Diego.
The Fellow will also have the opportunity to identify additional responsibilities that match their interests, such as: developing new image analysis methods with AI/Machine learning; designing and/or implementing custom imaging techniques and analysis; developing protocols for testing equipment performance and organizing microscopy discussion groups/journal clubs.
Responsibilities
• Provide training and assistance to users on a variety of light microscopes’ operation including wide-field microscopes, confocal microscopes, high-content screening, super-resolution microscopes, and associated hardware and software
• Provide training to users on image processing and analysis techniques
• Perform troubleshooting, cleaning and maintenance of microscopes and quality control checks to ensure optimal performance of microscopes
• Maintain computer hardware and software infrastructure
• Maintain billing, usage logs, lab inventory, order supplies, and general lab housekeeping
