How to clean immersion oil from peristaltic pump tubing?

Hello,

I borrowed a peristaltic pump for automatic oil dispension in our system but it has not been used for long time. Some parts are hard to replace so I want to try cleaning it first. Do you have any recommendation which solutions to use, in some parts oil is really solidified. Best

If the system is intended for use on your microscope, I would consult with the manufacturer. Otherwise, choice of solvent is the key. I haven’t had to clean out a pump, but for surfaces I find Xylenes and Chloroform do a great job of dissolving dried immersion oil quickly. Ethanol is substantially inferior, but will work with larger volumes and time. Check what might be compatible with any components in the pump with which it will come into contact–xylenes and chloroform are good a dissolving lots of things, including adhesives.
